About Us

The backbone of Ādhyavi is a mother daughter duo who dream to make a positive impact in Indian society. Tripta is a former high school biology teacher with an experience of 25+ years in teaching. Since a young age, Tripta has always been a connoisseur of Indian handloom sarees and handicrafts. After resigning from her job in 2021, she started giving shape to an idea that was brewing up in her mind since many years. It was her long-standing dream to do something big for handloom weavers and bring a wave of thoughtful clothing in our country. And with this vision, the seed for Ādhyavi was sown.

Jasmine is the daughter from this duo whose background in Indian Classical Dance has pervaded the aesthetics of Ādhyavi. Our model is trained in Bharatanatyam and Natyashastra under world renowned gurus. She, like her mother, loves traditional handloom sarees and embraces a traditional aesthetic. She graduated from Miranda House in 2022 and embarked on this venture with her mother, from humble beginnings, to make it big.

Why we started Ādhyavi

Having resigned from my job as a teacher just after the covid lockdown, I finally had the chance to pursue a dream from my early 20s. And it was about handloom sarees. More often than not, every saree I purchased in the past 25 years turned out to be of an ethnic handloom origin, whether it be Jamdani, Ikat or Sambalpuri. The passion for classic handloom pieces, straightforward craftsmanship and purity always appealed to me more than the modern day obsession with fancy sarees. However, it is increasingly difficult to find such products in the market without adulteration.

The problem is that when everything turns into an exhibition, a picture show for an audience or a trend, people tend to lose touch with their inner humanity and nature. The fashion industry(especially women’s fashion) is largely caught up in this whirlwind of display. Fancy chemical colours, polyester rich gaudy shimmers, frills and fashionably strange poses seem to be the new “in”. But we at Adhyavi, along with countless Indian queens, disagree. We believe timeless beauty is simply based on purity, craftsmanship and cultural roots.

Owning a handloom saree in westernised India is the same as owning our native languages in a mainstream English world. Just like our native languages, be it Hindi, Bengali, Tamizh, malyalam, marathi and countless others, our country’s handloom sarees are emblems of Indian heritage. Moreover, these sarees are sustainable, non polluting, apt for tropical Indian weather and naturally soothing for our mind, body and soul. ‘Suti’ is not the saint’s choice for nothing, the touch of purity and connection to soil is integral to our spiritual and mental well-being.

We believe that every woman who embraces such timeless value, simplicity, and sophistication of authentic Indian handloom sarees is a forthright queen. She is an Adhyavi whose grace, thoughts and personality are vibrant and classic. Adhyavi is an ode from me and my daughter to these queens- teachers, artists, mothers, homemakers, office goers, doctors- diligent women who make this world better by their presence and thoughtful choices. The queens who want straightforward, certified quality, no ambiguity and no word play.
